This review is for the catering services only. I don't believe the restaurant is currently open as the Chef is in high demand for his professional services. We had the delightful experience of attending an event that Chef Roman (who paradoxically hails from Australia) prepared. The food was flavorful in a way that murmered pleasant sweet nothings to your palette as you ate. Meaning...don't expect the usual pairings. The Chef is inventive and adventerous in the way the way he put combinations together. The plating of the food is pure art - art d'gastronomique! The food does really look as pretty as the pics on his website. Seriously, if I know he's catering your event and I'm busy...I will consider re-arranging my schedule to make an appearance. :)

The devil is in the details. As a long-time corporate events planner I've worked with a lot of caterers and I can say without hesitation, that Chef Roman and Kangaroo Kitchen have set a new standard of excellence. First and foremost the food is outstanding! Second, it was hassle free working with them. Chef Roman was the consument professional throughout the entire planning process, leaving me feeling confident my event would go off without a hitch. Third, is his impeccable attention to detail. Chef Roman's presentation of food is stunning. He truly understands the art and importance of presentation. I would highly recommend Kangaroo Kitchen if you are looking to hire a professional caterer, who doesn't need to be micromanaged and will treat your event as if it were their own. Because we all know at the end of an event, the food is what everyone remembers. Meghan Howard

I've been enjoying catering from Chef Roman for a couple years now so I am super excited that he finally has a restaurant here in GR! The food is tasty, fresh and wholesome, with new menu items almost every week. Great for dining in but also convenient for take out. A wonderful new additional to GR!

A delightful vegan/vegetarian friendly café complete with catering and to-go options. This is the perfect spot for a leisurely lunch or dinner. At the recommendation of a friend, I stopped in for lunch last week. I ordered the Vegan/Vegetarian Farro salad with dried cranberries and apricots and garbanzo beans and a cinnamon dressing with the Aussie Pudding for desert. My friend has the Chicken lasagna layered with roasted tomato and fennel, artichoke and ricotta/feta cheese with a tomato artichoke cream sauce. Our food was made at the time of order so it took a bit longer but the wait was so worth it. The dried cranberries worked well with the cinnamon dressing and the Farro kept me full till dinner. The Aussie pudding was the icing on the cake. It's like a bread pudding with raisins and while had to take it to-go to get back to the office, it was still warm when I opened it up. Topped with fresh, hand-whipped cream on top, it put me in dreamland for the rest of the day My friend was equally pleased with her meal. She didn't offer to share and I don't blame her; her meal looked just as enticing. With a daily changing menu, I can't wait to come back to see what else they have to offer.

Kangaroo Kitchen is an amazing restaurant addition to the Fulton Street Farmer's Market neighborhood (it's just a few blocks down from the market) and to GR in general. I recommend this cozy spot for anyone who likes trying new foods (they have a new menu every week based on available ingredients), fresh dishes with big flavor and local ingredients, and a quiet, relaxed and energizing restaurant experience. They are focused heavily on take-out, but there are 5 or 6 tables there to eat and relax. Chef Roman is very friendly, and his skill in his trade comes through crystal clear in his food and presentation. I cannot wait to go back to try more, as well as to use them for catering at work. A must try!! Oh, and if you don't, IT MEANS YOU HATE KANGAROOS.

Had two of their soups today, creamy chicken and rice and quinoa coconut, and both were excellent! Called ahead for pick up during a work lunch and was ready in 5 minutes.

This place blew my mind! I found it by accident and I couldn't be happier, the flavors are exquisite, the options few but thoroughly planned with obvious knowledge of what tastes good. And the chef has an accent, what a bonus!

I've only enjoyed one entree from here. The menu changes seasonally and often enough that no official menu has been printed. That's always a good sign. Great food at an affordable price. Gourmet quality! The barber next door is a total freak about the parking lot. I parked in a lot I assumed was common for the buildings for an estimated five minutes or less and the barber came out and scolded me, requesting I restart my car and pull two spots over to grab my pick up. I didn't comply and I'm annoyed I was so defensive about it. If you park in a non designated spot, expect to be harassed by an Italian barber with a resentful and generally unhappy disposition.

We were drawn to Kangaroo Kitchen because of the vegan options. Sometimes that means compromise, but the meal itself did not disappoint. The restaurant is quaint and very inviting with a very friendly staff. We ate there and didn't wait more than 15 for our meal. The food was awesome and the presentation was truly something to behold. Definitely recommend this to any vegan or carnivore and check the menu frequently as we were told that it frequently changes.

Three adults (one senior) and two small children attending 12/30/13 and couldn't have imagined a better experience (so much so, and we eat out all the time, that I had to post a review for the first time!) They were very accommodating to the small children (in fact bringing a tasting of the Korean chili sauce used on the hot wings to make sure not too hot for the children). Everything on the plate was thoughtful/well put together and healthy (including shredded pork with cilantro, crab cakes with dill, much more). Great vegetarian/vegan options - the salads were delicious (including a brussel sprout/kale mustard medley), vibe was eclectic/cozy, and the staff was super friendly. Space is small - we can imagine the wait will grow with time. Amazing experience.

Kangaroo Catering exceeded all expectations for our wedding last weekend in Montague, MI. We hired Chef Roman to cater not only the reception Saturday night, but also lunch and dinner Thursday and Friday for over 80 people, AND brunch on Sunday. Roman helped us with everything from the start - menu planning and budgeting (almost a year previous) to meeting at the rental place (6 months previous) to putting together a team for 4 days of flawless execution. The fact that the whole event was out of town didn't slow him down one bit. Everyone at the wedding was very impressed with all of the food and service and will be talking about it for a long time. Thanks Chef Roman! PS - He also travels to Chicago and St. Louis frequently for work.... now just need another excuse to have a party....

I had been meaning to visit Kangaroo Kitchen & Catering since I first heard about the opening of the new restaurant, which is located on the north side of Fulton just east of Diamond. I finally stopped in and wish I hadn't waited so long. There is parking in the back of the building, otherwise there's street parking. The menu frequently changes and features unique items, and I noticed several that were vegan, vegetarian and/or gluten-free. I had chickpea pancakes stuffed with sweet potatoes and topped with a cashew sauce with a side of spinach. Of course I had to have dessert when I saw Chef Roman had made saffron vanilla crème brûlée. Everything was really amazing. The dining area is smaller (4 or 5 tables?) but I'm guessing they do a lot of takeout. They had a nice deli case with a variety of salads and bottled drinks. I really liked the interior decor and ambiance - so neat! The menu had so many dishes I would have liked to try, so I can't wait to go back again to try something new - it's refreshing to see a restaurant with a variety of salads, soups and entrees that are different and that rotate on a regular basis. Anyway, Roman is very friendly and he came out to front to answer some questions I had. It's obvious he has a passion for what he does and he did such a nice job describing the food and answering my questions. The presentation of the food was really lovely and made me smile. It was so fun and pretty! Not only was it aesthetically appealing, but it was so flavorful and offered some surprising combinations that resulted in the perfect taste and texture. I knew I would like it, but I ended up loving it. My husband isn't always one to branch out and try new things, but he really liked the food and said he's looking forward to coming back again and trying something else. If I ever have an event that needs catering I will not hesitate to contact Kangaroo Kitchen & Catering. What a wonderful addition to Grand Rapids! Hop on over and check out KKC today! :)

We had a 3 day party for our wedding and Chef Roman and his staff catered 6 meals and every single meal was absolutely delicious. We met with Chef Roman a year before, he set the entire menu for all 6 meals based on what kind of food we said we liked and the meals he came up with were so impressive we hired him without tasting a single thing! Everything he did from the food, to the service to the clean up was above and beyond anything that we could have asked for. He and his crew worked tirelessly for 5 days straight to make our wedding unforgettable. I can not thank Chef Roman enough and would highly recommend him for any event.
